Sound Sports Performance & Training January & February Newsletter
First things first—forgive me for failing to get the January newsletter out on time. January was truly a whirlwind, so I figured the best move was to combine January and February and give you one big update on everything that’s been happening behind the scenes and on the floor.
The Wait Is Over — We’re Officially Open! 🎉
The wait is finally over!! Sound Sports Performance and Training is officially open.
Hundreds of hours of planning and building, thousands of pounds of equipment moved in, and countless moments of anticipation have all led to this moment. We even busted out the power washer this week to freshen up the storefront, and we are beyond excited to welcome you into a new era of Sound Sports Performance and Training.
January brought new faces, new energy, and new opportunities. One of my favorite highlights has been watching our OG Hours continue to grow—we’re up to 8 members now! This time is intentionally set aside just for our elders to train, build community, connect, and yes… occasionally dance a little. It’s been incredibly special to witness.
A Familiar Face, Now Official
Speaking of new faces (but really not that new), we’re excited to officially welcome Coach Maddie to the Sour Sports Performance and Training team! She has completed her coursework and will be sitting for her certification soon. You’ll be seeing a lot more of her around the facility in the coming days, and we’re grateful to have her energy, care, and passion added to the coaching staff.
Building the Future of Strength & Conditioning
In January, I had the pleasure of meeting with representatives from Edmonds School District, Edmonds College, and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) to discuss some exciting initiatives that extend well beyond our walls.
We are actively:
- Working to launch a Personal Training course with Edmonds College
- Coordinating with the school district to create an internship program for high school students
- Aligning both programs with the NSCA, the national leader in strength and conditioning
These efforts are about creating access, education, and professional pathways for our local youth and future fitness professionals.
Speaking of the NSCA—my Washington State Advisory Board and I have finalized the speaker lineup for the 2026 Washington State Clinic, which will be held on May 2, 2026 at Washington State University. This clinic will provide continuing education opportunities for NSCA-certified personal trainers, strength coaches, allied health professionals, and tactical strength coaches across the region.
👉 Stay tuned for more details.
In case you missed it…
We were feature in the paper. Nick Ng wrote a phenomenal report with some great photos. Check it out!
February Is Keeping the Same Energy 💪🏾
If January felt jam-packed, February is matching that momentum.
February is Black History Month, and in case you didn’t know, Sound Sports Performance and Training is a Black-Owned, Veteran-Owned Strength and Conditioning Facility. For the past several months, I’ve had the honor of serving on the planning committee for the Black Owned Business Excellence (BOBE) Symposium.
On February 1st, we hosted the 7th Annual BOBE Symposium at the Seattle Public Library. Hundreds of entrepreneurs and business owners filled the space to learn from panel speakers on resilience in business, funding strategies, and vocational autonomy. It was an incredibly powerful day that also included the presentation of Business and Community Leadership Awards.
While I was nominated for the Lewis Rudd Long Standing Business Award, I narrowly missed eligibility due to the requirement of 10 years in business…
Next year.
Community Recognition & Chamber News
On the subject of the Lynnwood Chamber of Commerce, we are incredibly honored to share that Sound Sports Performance and Training has been nominated and named a finalist for the Best of Lynnwood Awards for the second year in a row. Awards are presented at the Chamber’s monthly luncheon, which will take place on Wednesday, February 18.
This year, I’ve decided to sponsor a table at the luncheon as a way to further promote the business—however, there’s a small catch. I’ll be in California that same week on a college tour with my son, and unfortunately, it’s pretty hard to be in two places at once. Don’t worry—we’ll figure it out (translation: I may be asking one of you to enjoy a free lunch and sit in my place 🙂).
The very next day, I’ll be visiting Mountlake Terrace High School to sit on a career panel. This is another opportunity to promote Sound Sports Performance and Training, the developing programs with Edmonds School District and Edmonds College, and to showcase strength and conditioning as a career worth pursuing.
Panel Season Is in Full Effect
It seems the theme of this month is “Panel Presenter.” In addition to the Mountlake Terrace Career Panel, I was also a panelist at the BOBE Symposium and have been invited to serve on the University of Idaho’s Committee of Climate and Belonging through their College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences.
I’m honored to sit alongside NSCA Regional Coordinator Tessa Koschel and doctoral student Ezra Whitman to discuss why representation matters in health, fitness, research, and education.
“This session will highlight how cultural, gender, and lived-experience diversity strengthens professional practice, improves outcomes, and creates more inclusive learning and training environments. Through guided discussion and real-world perspectives, participants will gain insights and practical takeaways for fostering equity, belonging, and impact in their programs and communities.” This is a free webinar, and registration can be found here:
Capturing the Essence of SSPT
In an effort to continue growing and telling our story, I’ll be bringing in a professional videographer to film training sessions and capture the essence of who we are here at Sound Sports Performance and Training. I’m excited to share more of that with you soon.
10 Years Strong — Join Us to Celebrate 🎊
And speaking of milestones…
March 6 marks a full decade of Sound Sports Performance and Training supporting fitness in Lynnwood. A true Decennium.
To celebrate, we’re inviting you to our 10-Year Anniversary Party:
- Catered food
- A DJ
- Prizes and giveaways
- Community, connection, and celebration
This event will also serve as our official Ribbon Cutting with the Lynnwood Chamber of Commerce, making it an especially meaningful moment.
📅 Please RSVP by March 19 — we would love to celebrate with you.
As we continue settling into this new space, let’s not forget where we came from. February is shaping up to be a month of preparation, reflection, and growth. I truly love sharing this space and these experiences with all of you.
Thank you for being part of the journey.
— Coach Fed 💙💪🏾
