I feel like I owe you all an apology...these past few weeks have been a little crazy for me with travel, vacation, and the heat. If I missed your birthday or forgot you were out of town, forgot to grieve with you at your loss, listen to your struggles, or give you the attention you deserve, it wasn't intentional. With July flying by and us already a few days into August, my renewed promise is to get back to basics. Slow down, breathe, relax, listen more, and talk less. I am getting back to being the trainer for you and not the other way around! Thanks for baring with me. That said, here are some things going on this month in your gym and community.
August is Black Business Month, and I personally thank you for supporting our small local veteran black owned business. This month, I will personally be attending several professional networking events here and in Seattle to expand our reach.
August 3-4: We hosted a very in-depth exam prep clinic last weekend. There were 10 participants who came from near Lacy, Olympia, and even Canada to gain better knowledge, insight, and clarification for the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) Exam. For those who aren't really sure what a CSCS is, here is a direct quote from the website: "Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists® (CSCS®) are professionals who apply scientific knowledge to train athletes for the primary goal of improving athletic performance. They conduct sport-specific testing sessions, design and implement safe and effective strength training and conditioning programs and provide guidance regarding nutrition and injury prevention." It's truly a badge of honor in the industry to be a CSCS, so hopefully we will have more CSCS coaches in our ranks soon!
August 14: My old friend Dan invited me to the African American Leaders Professional Networking (AALPN) at Edmonds College. This is a good business networking opportunity to meet other BIPOC business owners in the county.
August 17: RUDD'S R.U.B.B. (Raising Up Black Businesses) Initiative, a precedent-setting initiative designed to financially empower black-owned businesses invites you to join other Black business owners in a fun and powerful networking event in celebration of Black business month. This event is designed for aspiring and early-stage entrepreneurs to meet with some of Washington state's most successful Black business owners.
August 24: SummerFest Community Fair is back on August 24th. Come out to Bothell and sample some of the best that Bothell has to offer. SummerFest is an outdoor event in Downtown Bothell and will consist of 80+ local business vendors, food trucsk, kids activities and entertainment. We will have a booth, so come say HI! Saturday 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM
August 30: The Lynnwood Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with Snotrac (Snohomish County Transit Coalition) and Sound Transit to host a major evening celebration as part of the grand opening of the Lynnwood Link Extension on Friday, This is exciting because now the Light Rail will run from Lynnwood to SeaTac.
With that being said, tell me what you have going on? What's been your favorite thing to watch in the Olympics? How was your work trip? What else is new? Let's train hard and chat between sets! See you in the gym!
